They came. They ate. They left … a mess! Thanksgiving is not a meal eaten only by proper, adult guests. There are messy kids, eccentric aunts and maturing grandparents involved in this most fabulous family meal. Some even bring their pets along to share in the festivities. It’s fun, rambunctious and MESSY!
If you are the one blessed with having hosted such an experience, then you know exactly what I’m talking about. Mild cases of post-turkey blues consist of muddy shoes and spilled gravy. The more extreme cases involve anything from cranberry sauce to wine to pet stains. You look around and wonder where to even begin.
Here are some helpful hints for those post-turkey stains:
- Step one is always the same for any stain. Blot up the excess moisture immediately. Don’t rub, just press a clean dry towel to the stain.
- Use an enzyme based carpet cleaner for organic stains like food and urine. Many stain removal products will let you know right on the bottle that they contain enzymes. Spray it on, agitate it and then let it sit for a few minutes. Re-blot the area with a clean towel and repeat until the stain disappears.
- Follow the enzyme cleaner with an oxidizer. An oxidizer is a product containing sodium percarbonate and hydrogen peroxide. Again, check the label of the product you’re buying. Mix according to packaging instructions and apply to the area. Then rinse with lukewarm or cold water and blot again. (Do not use an oxidizer on wool carpets)
There is no reason to be scared away by the words enzyme and oxidizer. Simply read the label on the stain remover bottle to see which one it is. Or search online for products using these processes.
And of course, if that stubborn stain just won’t come out, you know who to call! Remember, we only charge for the stain if we are successful!
So turn those frowns around and take comfort in your new “stain-savvy” knowledge. After all, Christmas is just around the corner!
