Taking Dirt to the Mat
August 9, 2013
The best way to keep dirt off your carpets is to stop the dirt from coming into your house to begin with. That means an investment in entry mats and rugs. Placing a welcome mat outside your front door, and another one just inside, will help keep dirt from traveling into your home on the bottom of your guests’ shoes.
These don’t have to be big, ugly, industrial looking mats. There are countless sizes and designs available and, if you’re a shopper, the process of choosing one can be a lot of fun.
Placing a mat on both the inside and outside of every door that leads out of your house is like putting a bib on your baby before each meal. Sure, some of the dirt is going to get through, but just look at all the stains you avoided!
Once you have your mats in place, think about placing an entry rug, or area rug, in the entry area of your home. Placing rugs in high traffic areas is another great way to make your carpets last longer. Your home now has three levels of defense against every pair of shoes that enter. The outside mat, the inside mat, and the area rug. There are some beautiful area rugs available. I came across this very informative article to help in choosing the best entry rug for your particular style of home.
Some people simply bind remnants of their own carpet and place them in front of the sofa or down the hallway. Another good place for these is where one type of flooring stops and carpet begins. Like often happens when going from a tiled kitchen floor to a carpeted hallway. Placing a remnant at the beginning of the hallway will help catch the “kitchen debris” before it gets tracked down the hall.
Like that baby bib, however, carpets eventually get dirty no matter how many precautions you take. When that time comes around, remember to call the best carpet cleaning in Fresno. That’s right, Aaron’s Quality Cleaners. We make carpet smile!
