Spilling the Beans: The Secret of Coffee Stain Removal
February 26, 2013
There’s nothing I love more than the smell of coffee brewing in the morning. And I sense that I’m not alone as I see the endless cars at the Starbucks drive-thru on my way into work.
When my parents come to visit they always bring a bag of coffee with them. They drink a lot of coffee. Unfortunately, with the three grandchildren dancing around them, that yummy morning cup of coffee often hits the carpet.
I thought I had resolved the whole coffee stain issue when we moved to Fresno and a lovely tile floor. Yet what did we go and do, but place an area rug on that tile. The good news is that I also went and got a fabulous job here with the best carpet cleaner in Fresno!
I guess all this time working around a carpet cleaner has rubbed off on me. You should have seen me when my mom spilled her coffee this last Thanksgiving. It was almost comical. “Don’t rub!” I commanded, “Blot!” I raced off to get clean, white rags and my bottle of carpet stain removal solution.
The family stared at me like I was a little nuts, but inside my head I heard all those carpet cleaning tips coming back to me. I looked at that fresh potential coffee stain and was driven to action.
Later, I think even my mother-in-law looked at me with a new gleam of respect in her eye as we viewed the area rug to find that, in fact, we couldn’t find the coffee stain. That alone was worth it all as I don’t know anyone who keeps a cleaner house than her.
Good news upon good news? I like to share! Why shouldn’t every person have access to this vital piece of cleaning information to help raise her status among family members?
Follow these simple steps the next time a cup of coffee free-falls onto your carpet and you too can meet that stain with quick, confident, successful action!
1. Step one is always the same … act fast!
2. Blot up as much liquid as you can with a clean, white towel.
3. Spray water (never hot!) over the stain and blot again.
4. If the stain is still there, then mist it with this solution #1:
¼ tsp dishwashing detergent mixed with 1 cup water
5. Work the solution into the stain gently with your fingertips and then let it sit for about 10 minutes.
6. Blot. Rinse with water. Blot again.
7. If the stain is still there, then mist it with this solution #2:
1/3 cup white vinegar mixed with 2/3 cup water
8. Work the solution into the stain gently with your fingertips and then let it sit for about 10 minutes.
9. Blot. Rinse with water. Blot again
Sometimes you can’t catch that coffee stain right away. If you have an old, set-in coffee stains, then try this solution #3:
Mix baking soda and water together to form a paste
Smooth it over the stain and allow it to dry. When dry, vacuum the area. The stain should come up with the baking soda.
One big disclaimer to take note of is that not all carpet is made the same. That means that not all carpet will necessarily like these cleaning solutions. Therefore, always test any stain remover on an inconspicuous piece of your carpet before using it in more visible places.
And, if all else fails, call the best carpet stain remover in all of Fresno and Clovis California! Our policy is that if we can’t get it out, then you don’t pay! How’s that for a guarantee?
So … let them drink coffee! Look on with careless abandon, yet always keep that stain remover solution ready … just in case!
