Concrete Floors that Rock!
March 6, 2013
Concrete flooring seems to be showing up in homes everywhere these days. When I first heard about it I thought, “Ugh! Who would want to live on a concrete floor?” Now that I’ve had some time to adjust to the idea, I’m beginning to see the advantages. I’m also surprised by how beautiful some of these floors are. Not at all what I envisioned.
The concrete is acid stained in order to meet your color or design needs. Once it is to your liking, a concrete sealer is then spread over the entire floor. This helps to protect the floor from stains and dirt throughout its life. Care for concrete floors is fairly simple.
Daily maintenance includes dust mopping once a day. Nothing major, just a microfiber mop swiped across the floor and then shaken outside. Concrete flooring should be damp mopped about once a week. It is important to not use any products with a high pH balance. The sealer on the floor can be broken down, so use a small amount of neutral cleaner mixed with water. Don’t apply it too heavily.
A new sealer will need to be applied to the concrete floor about every 3 to five years in the high traffic area. If you notice your floor dulling, then it is time to buff it back to a high shine. For sealing and buffing products follow this link:
Installation of concrete flooring is considered to be about the same price as having tile or wood installed in your home. The advantage is that it lasts so much longer and requires less maintenance.
I’ve included some of my favorite pictures of interior concrete flooring. It is truly amazing!
