Lava Lamp Floors?!

Lava Lamp Floor Tiles

Remember lava lamps? Actually, you may not even need to remember them as they have been making a comeback of sorts. I’ve seen them creeping into the sores over the last couple of years in the teens’ department.  Well, lava lamps have reached a whole new level. There is now a patented floor tile available called Liquid Lava by Jockimo. According to their website these tiles exceed the requirements set forth by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Basically, they are a great non-slip type of flooring.

They are made by combining two sheets of plastic. The top layer is the non-slip sheet while the bottom layer is a shock absorber. Then a patented, environmentally friendly liquid is placed between these two plastic sheet, creating the Liquid Lava tile.

Better yet, these funky new tiles have been created not just for floors, but are being made into table tops and counter tops as well. Cleaning the floor tiles can be a bit tricky when compared porcelain or natural stone tiles. Professional cleanings are not actually recommended. My guess is that the plastic used to make the tiles does not withstand high temperatures very well.  It is advised to seal the tiles periodically with an auto polishing metallic wax. After that, they are simple cleaned with everyday household detergents.

It is worth your time to view the pictures of these retro-looking tiles. They would make a fabulous addition to the decor of a teenager’s room or a media room. Very fun! Very far out! Very groovy!

Epoxy Aggregate Flooring

Aggregate Cleaning - Before and After

Epoxy aggregate flooring, also known as aggregate, stone flooring, rock flooring or Pebble Tec, is a floor that is made out of small stones. People sometimes call it Pebble Tec because that was the brand name used when it became popular to coat swimming pools with small stones. The true name for this resilient indoor flooring is epoxy aggregate flooring. Just like it looks, it is made of small stones held together by epoxy and placed on a floor in place of carpet, tile, or hardwood. Once laid, the pebble floor is then sealed with a coat of epoxy to keep moisture from seeping in.

There are a lot of great qualities to this type of flooring. My favorite is that it never really looks dirty. No dirty grout to worry about like on a tile floor. No hard to remove stains like on a carpeted floor. Just multicolored stones hued to match your home decor. I am a fan of aggregate on that base level. Hard to see the dirt, easy to clean overall … those characteristics rate fairly high in my scope of flooring.

I discovered the main downfall of aggregate flooring after working for the best aggregate cleaner in Fresno. Although the floors are supposed to be sealed, they  tend to be very porous. That means water seeps down into the fathomless foundation beneath and causes problems. Any water that sits too long leads to issues with mold and mildew. Can you image what happens when you spill a cup of milk?  How do you get under those pebbles to clean it out? The answer is that you really can’t … at least not very effectively.

Having your aggregate floor resealed on a regular basis is one way to keep this problem at bay. It is recommended that indoor epoxy aggregate floors get resealed every five years. So be sure to check your calendars. Proper maintenance if half the battle with any type of flooring.

The option for cleaning an epoxy aggregate floor is to have it professionally cleaned. That’s where Aaron’s Quality Cleaners come in. We have seven years of experience under our belts now and have fine tuned our cleaning skills to meet every flooring need. We have tried all manner of products and cleaning methods and narrowed down the best process possible.

When one of our technicians comes into your home, the first thing he will do is put a pre-spray down on the aggregate. After it has had a chance to begin breaking down the built up soil and grime, he will then begin to scrub it. Using a high powered tool, and 240 degree water, he pressure washes and scrubs the floor. The high temperature water not only helps to break down the encrusted dirt, but is hot enough to kill any bacteria, mold, or mildew that may be hanging out in the crevices.

Once scrubbed and cleaned, the aggregate flooring is then rinsed and the dirty water extracted to a holding tank in the van. What makes our cleaning so effective is the truck mounted system we employ. By utilizing a large motor we are able to provide the power needed to extract deep into the nooks and crannies of those sneaky pebbles. We finish with an after-spray designed to help the flooring resist bacteria until it has a chance to dry completely.

As you can see, we have put a lot of thought into this cleaning process. It is what makes us the best aggregate cleaner in Fresno and Clovis. So if you find that your epoxy aggregate flooring is looking a bit dingy, give us a call and let us make that floor smile again!

There’s Pumpkin on my Carpet

Pumpkin in my carpet

With the leaves turning colors and the crispness in the air, we have definitely reached our autumn season in Fresno. Due to Halloween, yesterday we covered the topic of how to clean candle wax out of carpet. Today we’ll talk about pumpkin stains.

As the best carpet cleaning in Fresno, we have come across pumpkin stains fairly often. Between Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas there tends to be a lot of pumpkin recipes served. Every now and then that lovely, bright orange dessert or bread can get dropped on the carpet. Here are a few simple steps you can use to remove it.

  1. Act fast. The first step is always the same, no matter what type of spill you are working with. The faster you can get to it, the more likely it is to come out.
  2. Scoop up as much of the pumpkin as you can using a plastic spoon. Be gentle so as not to press it further into the carpet.
  3. Mix together a few drops of non-bleach laundry detergent or dishwashing liquid with warm water and pour into a spray bottle.
  4. Lightly spray the cleaning solution onto the pumpkin stain . You do not want to saturate the stain, just moisten it a bit. Using a clean, white towel, gently blot the stained area. Be sure to work from the outside to the inside of the area so that you don’t spread the stain as you’re cleaning.
  5. Repeat the spray and blot method until the stain is gone.
  6. Lightly spray the area with water and blot a few more times to remove any detergent. Remember that detergent left in carpet will re-attract dirt, causing a stain to continually reappear.

As the best carpet cleaner in Fresno, we hope this procedure works well for you over the coming holidays. Please remember us when it’s time to give your carpets a deep, healthy, high-quality clean. We love to make carpets (and customers) smile!

This Trick is a Treat

This Trick is a Treat

When the sun goes down on Halloween night, then the fun begins. Pumpkins are carved, candles are lit, and candy flows freely. The mood is set and it is a perfect evening for trick-or-treating. I don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to seeing all the costumed kiddies at my door.

Of course every holiday has its potential for disastrous accidents on the carpet. Don’t let a spooky spill turn your fun evening into a Halloween nightmare. Candle wax is a common fright-night mishap that can easily be addressed through a few simple stain removal steps.

  1. Act fast if possible. Any stain is more easily removed when gotten to quickly.
  2. Fill a sealable plastic bag with ice and place it on the wax to harden it.
  3. Once the wax has hardened, scrap off as much as you can using a plastic knife or spoon, being careful not to damage the carpet in the process.
  4. Place a clean terry cloth towel, or paper bag, over the wax that is left in the carpet. Rest a warm iron on top of the bag. The wax should be absorbed into the bag. Use caution so that you don’t scorch your carpet with an iron that is too hot, or hanging over the edges of the protective bag.
  5. Repeat ironing the stain with clean portions of the paper bag until the wax has been completely lifted from the carpet.
  6. If the wax was colored, then you may be left with a colored stain. You can attempt to remove this stain by following the steps mentioned in our post, The Do’s and Don’ts of Carpet Stain Removal.

We expect you to have a great deal of success with this wax stain removal process. And, as always, feel free to give the best carpet cleaner in Fresno a call if you need help or when it’s time for your next professional carpet cleaning!

So enjoy your evening of frightening fun, without the nightmare of ruined carpet.

Happy Halloween!

Vacuum Cleaners

Best Vacuum Cleaner

There has been much discussion about the health benefits of carpeting when it comes to allergies and asthma. The verdict, produced by recent studies, is that carpets are great at trapping allergens and preventing them from being released back into the air. But what happens when you vacuum? Don’t those allergens get released into the air during the vacuuming process? The answer, as usual, is that it depends. In this case, it depends on the vacuum you’re using.

We’ve stated in the past that using a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter is the best. Also, vacuuming on a regular basis is beneficial as it not only keeps your carpet from getting worn out too fast, but also keeps your home more allergen free.

There are a lot of vacuum cleaners on the market. Each claims to have an advantage over the others and, let’s face it, who really knows enough about vacuum cleaners to choose wisely? Well, now we have an answer to that question. Werner Braun, president of the Carpet and Rug Institute, revealed that there is an actual list of approved vacuum cleaners.

I looked at their study criteria, which covers soil removal, dust containment, and surface appearance change. The Carpet and Rug Institute backs up their findings on their website. And wow, do they ever! There is a confusing amount of data strewn throughout their many testing applications. Look out Consumer Reports, these guys are sci-en-ti-fic!

The best part about the testing is that it also included a section for indoor air quality. This basically makes sure that vacuums keep their dust particles inside the machine, not released back into the air. Vacuums that pass the Carpet and Rug Institutes test receive a Seal of Approval/Green Label. The green label is the air quality portion of the test.

They test vacuum efficiency by using x-ray fluorescence technology (XRF) to determine how much soil is actually removed from a sample of carpet. Vacuum cleaners that meet the minimum of the high standards set forth by the Carpet and Rug Institute are given a rating of Bronze. Then there are the Silver and Gold ratings for the very best machines out there.

So, no more confusion. Just a simple trip to the Carpet and Rug Institute website to view the vacuum cleaners that have been approved and received the CRI Seal of Approval. I don’t know about you, but that sure is a load off my mind! Happy cleaning!

Wild and Crazy Area Rugs

Wild and Crazy Area Rugs

Keeping in the spirit of all things carpet, I came across this website with crazy, fun, out-of-control area rugs.  I mean talk about thinking outside the box, these rugs totally rock! There are party game rugs, if you run with the hopscotch crowd, all the way to rugs designed to look like rounds of salami. Where do people come up with these ideas?!

My all time favorite is the eggs over easy. This would be such a hoot to have in the home. Talk about a conversation piece! It is a white, round, shaggy rug with two carefully placed bright, yellow, round pillows on it. I can’t really envision what room of the house this would occupy, yet I have an egg-loving daughter that would make any room acceptable.

Then there is a braided rug with a string of lights embedded inside each loop. Better than any night light I’ve ever seen! You could set the mood of any room in the house just by turning on the carpet. I noticed the rug is white with white lights. I imagine the next step will be colored lights for the room, like pink for a girl’s room or even holiday colors for Christmas.

Now, you may not want to visit this next website, but I just have to put it in here. Just in case the men are feeling left out of all the area rug fun, there is a special rug just for you. Well, if you’re a hunter that is. It is called the Road Kill Rug. Yes, you did read it right. It is an area rug designed to look like sweet little Bambi has died in a bloody mess on the carpet. Maybe a hunting cabin or man cave?

It seems there is no end to the spin people can put on normal, everyday things. One thing that forever stays the same however is Aaron’s Quality Cleaners’ ability to come out and clean your area rug. Judging by the ones I viewed, we may have our work cut out for us, but what’s the point of being the best carpet cleaner in Fresno, without a bit of a challenge now and then!

When Accidents Happen

Bryce as Superher for Blog

So much of our lives are lived on our carpet. We walk, eat, drink, wrestle, read a book, do all sorts of regular life activities in our home … on our carpet. And let’s face it, accidents happen. Sometimes they’re the everyday, small-time type of accidents like a spilled drink or dab of toothpaste. Other times they are the BIG “I’ve ruined my carpet!” type of accidents like bleach or motor oil. We’ve definitely seen it all here at Aaron’s Quality Cleaners.

This past week we received an emergency call for a spilled bottle of nail polish. And boy was it a doozey of a spill. The whole bottle of dark blue nail polish. Naturally, being the best carpet cleaner in Fresno, we saw this as a challenge to our cleaning abilities. I mean, it can get a little humdrum cleaning our way through so many “normal dirty” carpets. This was a chance to break out our super powers and put our abilities to the test!

Bryce, our fearless supervisor, was the superhero of the day. He arrived at our client’s house and scoped out this disaster. Then he tediously and meticulous “worked” the stain for over an hour. The first weapon he pulled from his arsenal of cleaning products was his tube of Pro-Solve gel. This amazing solvent is one of the many various products Aaron’s Quality Cleaners has discovered in our seven years of being the best carpet cleaner in Fresno.

Bryce deftly applied the gel and then got down to the real work. Using a tool called the Carpet Shark, he began scrubbing at the pool of nail polish embedded deep into the fibers of the carpet. His vigorous scrubbing was followed by a hot water rinse and deep extraction. Then the process was repeated, over and over and over, until the danger had been averted and peace restored to yet one more carpeted home.

So the next time you find yourself staring at a ruined portion of carpet, don’t dismay, call our superhero-like carpet cleaning service. We’re here to save the day … or at least the carpet! :)

Allergies and Carpet

Thursday, October 17th, 2013

October 17, 2013

Allergies and CarpetWhen it comes to allergies, carpet has gotten a bad rap. The theory went like this:  Carpets hold onto allergens such as pet dander, dust, and pollen. If these allergens are being held in the carpet, then you can never make your home truly allergen free and therefore you will continue to suffer from allergies at home.

This idea seems like very valid reasoning on the surface and has been accepted as fact over the years. New studies have been conducted, however, that contradict this concept. It is true that carpets tend to hold onto allergens. No matter how well or how often you vacuum, you just can’t remove them all without a professional, deep steam clean.

Although this fact appears as a weakness in the argument for carpet, it is actually a hidden strength. Recent studies show that foot traffic on hard surfaces such as tile and vinyl cause four times the amount of particulate concentration in the air. Basically, when allergens fall on the carpet, then they stay in the carpet. When allergens fall on hard floors, then they re-circulate in the air and get breathed in by the people who live there.

The up side is that allergens on hard surfaces are easier to remove and clean. The downside, is that you would need to clean very thoroughly and very frequently in order to outweigh the benefit of carpeting. Using a HEPA filter while vacuuming your carpet is the best way to remove allergens as it traps them to ensure they don’t get released back into the air.

And, of course, when it comes time to give those carpets a deep, healthy clean then give a shout-out to the best carpet cleaner in Fresno! Aaron’s Quality Cleaners uses the highest quality equipment to make your clean the best carpet cleaning available!

A Magic Carpet Cleaner in Clovis

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013

October 16, 2013

Before and AfterWhile performing carpet cleaning in Clovis, we have seen an amazing array of dirty carpets. In rental homes, people to seem to be especially hard on their carpets. We clean for a number of property managers and have seen everything from muddy traffic areas to red wine stains to even snake urine in one home (snake urine is surprisingly foul and difficult to remove)!

We recently had a property manager ask us to be their carpet cleaner in Clovis. The home had seen quite a few tenants over the years and the carpet was in shambles. The home owner could not yet afford to replace the carpets and so the property manager asked if we could work some of Aaron’s Quality Cleaners magic on it. A bit of extra TLC to make the worn out carpet last through just one more tenant.

We visited the home, took in the state of things, and went to work. True to what we’d heard, the carpet was worn and had some very heavy traffic patterns ground in. Being the best carpet cleaner in Clovis, we immediately formulated the best plan of attack and began meticulously going over each square foot of carpet.

We combined our tried and true (due to our extensive experience) pre-spray products with our powerful truck-mount system and superior Hydramaster equipment. But that’s not all. One of our tricks of the trade is called tripling. That means if a technician comes to an area of carpet that just won’t clean out, then he uses the rotary extractor to cleanse the carpet fibers from three different directions. Sure, it takes longer, but the results are amazing!

It is extra care like this that allows us to keep “QUALITY” in our business name. It is also what keeps our customers coming back to us every year. If you are in need of a fantastic carpet cleaning in Clovis, then look no further. Give Aaron’s Quality Cleaners a call and see what we can do for your carpets!

Carpet & Selling Your Home

Friday, October 11th, 2013

October 11, 2013

Contrast for BlogOne factor that comes up over and over in the real estate business is carpet. Nothing ruins a good house showing so much as worn, dirty carpet. Sometimes the buyers just can’t see past that great expanse of grimy flooring to discover the treasure of the house before them.

The question inevitably comes up, “Should we have the carpets replaced before showing our home?” I have a great answer, “It depends!” Replacing your old, dirty carpet with new carpet will most definitely help the house to show better and most likely sell faster. What it does not do, unfortunately, is add any actual hard cash value to the home.

Let me propose another, less expensive, option to this dilemma. Why not simply have your carpets cleaned by a high-quality, professional carpet cleaner? I know, I know, how can you take the word of someone so biased as myself (a happy carpet cleaner employee)? The answer is that I’ve seen it work time and time again. Sure, there are carpets out there that are just too far gone to ever come clean again. But the majority of carpets still have good, valuable life left in them. They’re just waiting for Aaron’s Quality Cleaners to come restore them into a semblance of their former glory.

With the combination of our truck-mount system, rotary extractor, and high temperature capabilities, we whip those carpets into shape in no time. The picture in this blog is an actual, true picture we have taken of a carpet that was thought to be beyond hope. We worked our magic on its fibers and brought it back to life to save the day!

Cleaning is so much less expensive than replacing your carpet, especially when so many other things need to be done as you prepare your home for the real estate market. Let us take off some of the stress and remove just one worry involved in the process!
